Setting Up Your City Hive POS Hardware (POS)
This article explains how to setup your City Hive Provided POS hardware
This training provides essential information on setting up your new City Hive Merchants point-of-sale hardware. We will guide you through each step, from unboxing to connecting and activating your register equipment.
1. What You'll Need
To form a complete register station, you'll need five key pieces of hardware. This includes your POS display, which can be either a 15.6-inch monitor or a 12.6-inch tablet. You'll also have an Epson receipt printer, a cash drawer, a Bluetooth barcode scanner, and a payment terminal for various transaction types. Ensure you have all these components before beginning the setup.
2. Power On Your POS Station
The first step is to power on your main POS station. Choose the display that will run your register, whether it's the 15.6-inch monitor or the 12.6-inch tablet, and simply turn it on. This display will serve as the central hub for your point-of-sale operations.
3. Open the Merchant Portal
Next, open the Merchant Portal on your POS station. Navigate to merchants.cityhive.net using your browser. Once the page loads, look for the 'Install' icon in the browser's address bar. Clicking this icon allows you to add City Hive Merchants as its own dedicated application, streamlining your access. This dashboard also provides live traffic, marketing, and customer analytics once fully set up.
4. Install the App
After locating the install icon, click 'Install' to confirm the prompt. This action will add a dedicated City Hive Merchants icon directly to your desktop. This new icon provides quick and easy access to your register software, separate from your web browser.
5. Launch Your Dedicated App
Once the installation is complete, open the new City Hive Merchants icon. The application will launch in its own dedicated window, operating independently from your web browser. This ensures a focused and efficient environment for managing your register operations.
6. Set Up the Payment Terminal
Now, let's set up the payment terminal. Begin by powering on the device and connecting it to your Wi-Fi network. A code may be required from City Hive to complete this Wi-Fi connection. The terminal also features built-in 4G LTE as a backup, making it ready to accept tap, insert, and swipe payments. You won't need to access other functions like transactions or apps on the terminal itself.
7. Connect the Printer & Cash Drawer
Connecting the Epson receipt printer involves two main steps. First, connect the power cord to a wall outlet and then to the printer. Second, use the white USB-A cable to connect the printer directly to your POS station. For the cash drawer, simply connect the black RJ cable from the cash drawer into the designated port on the back of the Epson printer.
8. Pair the Bluetooth Barcode Scanner
To pair your Bluetooth barcode scanner, keep the manufacturer's manual readily available. Follow the specific pairing instructions provided in the manual to connect the scanner wirelessly to your register via Bluetooth. Once successfully paired, your wireless scanner will be ready to efficiently ring up items at checkout.
9. Open the POS Register
With all your hardware now connected, open the City Hive dashboard. At the top of the navigation bar, locate and click the 'Go to POS' button. This action will open your dedicated register screen, which is the interface you'll use for processing every sale.
10. Connect the Epson Device
To finalize the printer setup, find an existing order in the register and click 'Print,' or simply run a quick test transaction. This action will trigger a pop-up prompt to 'Connect to the Epson Device.' Confirm this prompt to complete the pairing of your printer with the register software. The payment terminal and cash drawer are already configured at this stage.
11. Setup Complete
Congratulations, your new register station setup is now complete. With the POS display powered on, the City Hive Merchants app installed, the payment terminal connected, and both the printer and barcode scanner properly configured, your business is ready to begin operations.
